Getting An Electric Dog Fence

Pet owners do many things to keep their pets safe. In the case of dogs, owners take them to the veterinarian, brush their hair, take care of their teeth, get them proper collars, and in some cases, even get a fence installed to keep them from danger.

But many owners struggle with the decision on whether or not to get their pet an electronic dog fence. They often wonder if they’re painful to their pets. To decide whether an electric dog fence is a good idea, you should consider its advantages and disadvantages.

First of all, you need to understand how an electric dog fence works; which is by buring a wire across the desired perimeter of the fence. A device is placed in the dog’s collar (sometimes the fence comes with the collar) which is activated whenever the dog tries to cross the perimeter.

One of the advantages of an electronic dog fence is that it doesn’t block the view or rots away, like other types of fences do. In addition, you don’t have to get building permits or deal with zoning laws, since you’re not building anything and the view stays the same. So, you can keep your pet safe and inside your property without building or constructing an actual fence.

The cons list is more extensive. An electronic fence will keep your dog in, but it won’t keep other dogs out, like a regular fence would. They add a lot of security to a home, regardless of their actual type. There are some fences that actually improve the look of certain houses. Electric dog fences are also not fool-proof – for some dogs, the shock they get when crossing the barrier isn’t enough to actually keep them from crossing it. Moveover, your dog might not want or be able to come back, because doing so would activate the shock too.
