It shouldn’t cost much at all and can be done at nearly any age. If you’re going to have the puppy spayed or neutered they can usually fix it at the same time. I’ve actually had 2 female dogs that had those and the vet charged $50 on top of the spay. The dogs never had any other problems with them after the surgery.

some puppies heal…i know my small pom had one and by the time i took her for her 3rd set of puppy shots at 12 weeks old it had healed on it own…i wanted to get it repaired but my vet told me to wait till she got older because some heal on their own…

If it is a small hernia, it may heal on it’s own by the time this pup is a few months old. Most vets will wait until the puppy is about 5-6 months old and do it at the same time as the neuter for this reason. Although if you’re saving a few hundred dollars by getting a dog with this defect it is likely that the hernia is either very large or you’re dealing with a less than reputable breeder. As to cost, you could always call a couple of vets in your area and ask them for an estimate for a neuter with hernia repair to get an idea of how much it will cost. Usually it isn’t much extra for the hernia repair as it isn’t a complicated procedure and doesn’t take very long (usually adds about 10-15 minutes to the total surgery time) and the majority of the cost associated with hernia repairs and neuters is for the anesthesia and not the surgery itself.

I would call around at the local vets and ask them these questions. I have never had that kind of surgery done on a dog, just the umbilical hernia and it can vary greatly depending on where you live, good luck
